Welcome again to Then and Now, where each week we compare images of Merseyside landmarks, buildings, streets and events from bygone days with how they look today.

Our main image this week shows Liverpool players Willie Stevenson, Ian St John and Ron Yeats wrapped up warm in training in January 1967. The woolly hats look particularly fetching!

The trio were gearing up for a Third Round FA Cup match away at Watford on January 27th which ended in a goalless draw. Liverpool won the replay at Anfield 3-1 with goals from St John, Roger Hunt and Chris Lawler.

The Reds overcame Aston Villa 1-0 in the Fifth Round, but then went out 1-0 to local rivals Everton. The Toffees lost 3-2 away to Nottingham Forest in the quarter finals.

Liverpool started the 1966-7 season well, defeating Everton 1-0 in the Charity Shield, but crashed out of the European Cup 7-3 on aggregate to Johan Cruyff’s formidable Ajax Amsterdam side.
