Players from American football team the Manchester Heroes go through their paces against the Scunthorpe Steelers at a gala event.

The Heroes were one of three clubs active in Manchester in the late 1980s – the others were the Spartans and the Allstars.

All three clubs stopped playing in the 1990s, but American football was revived when the Manchester Titans were formed in 2003. The team consisted of local players who’d been travelling out of Manchester to appear for other sides.
