June 18, 1959:
The old colours of the 8th and 9th battalions of the Manchester Regiment are proudly dipped in salute before being marched off the parade ground at High Lea Camp.
The soldiers were rehearsing for the ceremony of the new colours taking place at St Audenshaw Grammar School.
The old colours had been with the battalions throughout World Wars I and II as well as the Malayan emergency of 1951.
In 1958, the Manchester Regiment was amalgamated with the King’s Regiment (Liverpool) to form the King’s Regiment.
June 12, 2002:
England cricket captain Nasser Hussein takes a break as he watches fielding practice before the Test match against Sri Lanka at Old Trafford.
The practice clearly paid off for England as they won the Test, the last of the three-match series, by 10 wickets.
England scored a massive 512 runs in their first innings and bowled out Sri Lanka for 253. The visitors managed 308 in their second innings.
England won the series 2-0 after thrashing Sri Lanka by an innings and 111 runs in the previous Test at Edgbaston. The first Test at Lords ended in a draw.
June 15, 2006:
Actor and presenter Bradley Walsh poses for the cameras in his role of factory boss Danny Baldwin on Coronation Street.
Walsh was in the long-running Granada soap from May 2004 until December 2006.
His character was originally going to be called Vic, but Walsh asked for the name to be changed to Danny in memory of his late father.
Since leaving the Street, Walsh has appeared in various TV shows including Doctor Who and Law and Order UK. He currently presents the ITV quiz show The Chase.
