Manchester United forward Carlos Tevez celebrates scoring against Liverpool by kissing his tattoo in front of the Anfield crowd.
The Argentinian striker’s goal, scored after only two minutes, was a consolation for the Red Devils as they lost the Premier League match 2-1.
United had the last laugh on Liverpool at the end of the season by beating them into second place in the league. The Red Devils were champions with 90 points with Liverpool second on 86.
Tevez played 63 matches for United from 2007 to 2009, scoring 19 goals. He then transferred to cross-town rivals Manchester City for a reputed £47 million.
September 13 1966:
Manchester model Sheelah Wilson puts her feet up after 17 years on the catwalk.
She is pictured at her final assignment – modelling clothes for the Queen’s dressmaker Norman Hartnell in Chester.
Wilson stayed in the fashion industry as she set up her own modelling agency in Manchester.
September 15 1909:
A rare photo of the great Italian tenor Enrico Caruso visiting Manchester. Here he’s talking to a telegraph operator in the Manchester office of The Mirror.
Opera star Caruso was a world-famous figure at the turn of the century. He performed throughout Europe and the Americas, singing a wide variety of roles.
His repertoire ranged from classic opera to more dramatic, popular tunes.
Caruso made more than 260 commercially released recordings from 1902 to 1920, all of which survive today.
