Rock The Cradle

Marie Paneth was the art therapist depicted in the highly acclaimed BBC drama The Windermere Children. Hidden away since WWII, seventy five years later, here is her inspiring story…

A poignant lost journal by the influential art therapist played by Romola Garai in the BBC’s award winning Windermere Children is about to be published. Marie Paneth’s Rock the Cradle is a rare eye witness account of what life was like both at the Calgarth Estate where the 300 Windermere Jewish children stayed and for several Holocaust survivors who lived in a hostel after the Second World War. Helping to rebuild their shattered lives through art, Paneth writes movingly about the daily challenges she faced every day to try and help them come to terms with the terrible atrocities they had endured.
